Wait Wait & Wait… But you may never find your NMMT!
Ah! Here I am, back again with my NMMT Volvos! Oops! “My NMMT Volvos”?????
I’ve been planning to write since a week but couldn’t really find the time. I travelled from Bandra to Vashi again on last friday, this time I clicked a few pics also… but alas! I don’t have my phones data cable at work now. So here is the story.
I had arrived at Bandra and was waiting for Dipsikha to arrive, in the meanwhile a Volvo arrived. The driver came out and Lo! He had a handkerchief on his shirts collar and was styling his hair standing on the front footboard looking at the large mirror on the left hand side.

The drivers are back to their regular self. Soon that bus left and after another good 15 – 20 mins Her Cuteness arrived at Bandra. She has this strange habit of coming from behind n trying to “Scare” me! and I too get “Scared”!
So we were again waiting for the bus and it arrived in another 20-25 mins or so. One thing I see in many of our fellow Mumbaikars is that we always rush towards things that are available in few numbers, be it in trains, buses or wherever, even when there is no one else to compete with us! So she ran towards the empty bus with nobody racing with her. I followed my normal pace (seeing no competition around! Else I too woulda ran in the absence of a queue) and got into the bus. We were comfortably seated in our favorite seat, the 3rd seat from the elevation towards the back, right under the AC vents.
The plastics were still on. I swung my hands behind my shoulder and pulled out the seat cover! Reminded me of “He-Man” in our younger years! I dint mean to spoil anything but the plastics makes your back sweat. So we were rolling and suddenly this sick song was being aired in the bus… I was sure I’d forget its lyrics so I wrote it down on my notepad… Let me get it…. Ah here it is… “Khat likkha hai Sajan ko“. It was such a sick song that when the conductor came to our portion of the bus, a passenger requested him to change it, another one also joined him saying “Please!”. The conductor was nice enough to report the matter to the driver who changed it immediately…. You think we got to hear a good one??? Damn! It was Himesh Reshamiya crooning damn number of his. Phew! Better than “Khat likkha hai sajan ko” on any day!
The ride was comfortable as usual, we reached Vashi in about 45 mins. We were happy. The next day also we took the Volvo from Vashi to Bandra. Oh here are some numbers… Bandra to Vashi Depot -Rs 28, Vashi Highway – Bandra – Rs. 25!
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Now yesterday I had gone home and we again caught up at Bandra at 8:50PM, we were waiting for the Volvo which showed no signs of arrival. We waited till 9:30PM, but no signs of the bus. Finally we decided to go in 505. I was still looking back to check if it was visible somewhere. but No! It wasn’t. Finally we were back at our good old 505s’ queue at Bandra BEST depot, soon a conductor came and printed a ticket for 2 till vashi depot & the cost???????? Rs 28! Cost of 1 ticket in NMMT Volvo till Vashi Depot!
And yeah… The conductor said “Thank You”! Something that you wont really get to hear in BEST unless you say “Thank you” after getting a ticket.
Now that I had the tick, I dint care if the NMMT arrived or not. In about 5 mins the 505 arrived and we got in, No AC vents on top! No large windows, No comfortable seats (My ass starts paining by the time I reach Vashi bridge! Blame it on my extra kilos), but fresh air and a few people comfortably using you as a support to stand. But thats alright, it took about 45 mins to reach Vashi depot & the BEST TV aired “Ek chatur naar, badi hoshiyaar”, “Ek mein aur ek tu”, “Baahon ke darmiyaan, do pyaar mil rahe” & some other Rishi Kapoor song, nice one… I don’t recollect the song. The point is the songs were way better than the ones in NMMT!
Though I love the Volvos’ I am more bothered about reaching my destination in time, and I am sure everyone would be. If NMMT doesn’t improve the frequency of these buses in order to tackle the traffic delays etc, they might soon loose out commuters to the always available 505 & the life line of Mumbai, our local trains!
Will post pics most probably on Monday.
