East meets South: “With a Bang”

September 3, 2009 10 comments

This is a personal story being told on a public forum!

Its my relationship!

I am a Mallu born in Calicut but brought up outside Kerala, my girl-friend is a Bong, born in Jabalpur and brought up there and Mumbai.

I used to work for ITES sector in Bangalore. I had enough of the sector and deceided to move to IT. As my loving parents couldn’t bear me living in Bangalore and looking for a job the invited me to Mumbai where they had been staying. I arrived Mumbai n I decided to pursue ANIIT course at NIIT in Navi Mumbai. My Dad who is against relationships etc gave me a strict warning that “You are going to NIIT for a course, so do the course and nothing else…” ( I know dirty minds like mines who are reading this would have already rhymed and added a new line with intercourse  in it! ;) ) and as luck would have it. I met this amazing girl with an attitude to die for in my batch! We started going out together and soon were into a relationship!

Great! Now one day my Dad realized out that I am getting “very regular to classes and very late to come home” and one day on the pretext of inviting friends for lunch, I brought her home! She wearing a T and cargos! I realized that my parents whom I used to assume to be cool were actually pretty conservative Mallus!

The battle began on my side which still continues!

Soon we got placed and were busy with jobs… Almost 1 year done.

Coming to her side now (Deliberately after an year!)…

Even after the resistance from my side, we were dating in full swing with her parents being clueless about all this, one fine saturday (Oops! Forgot to mention, Statrudays are the days we meet, thanks to our Mon – Fri jobs. One Saturday, with nothing else to do, we decided to watch “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” (Please…. I beg you not to create a picture of me who watches such stupid movies, even though we go for a lot of movies, its just because we had nothing else to do). Alright coming to the movie… Again as luck would have had it… One of her neighbours… a Gossipy Aunty saw us and the information was passed on to her Mom with absolutely no delay! And the battle began at her place!

2 years done now, parents still at their stand.

Now… I have a younger bro who knows this and is not really in a position to support me because of my Dad!

She has got an elder bro!…. Ah I can see a nasty smile on your face sayin “You’re done man!” ;) or “Oh shit” if you are shocked. And guess what, he too writes a blog! He hasn’t spoken to me but knows that I am a Mallu. He knows that we have a joint bank account as the quarterly statements are delivered at her place and her Mom knows about this too! Phew! I got balls, correct???! I know that the day my bro-in-law reads this he’ll swear to crush my them!!! Lol!

Its alright!  We’re going strong with the relationship. We’ve started knowing each other more and more… O yea! We’ve started fighting also.. but the tantrums and silence period doesn’t last for more than an hour! I know this interval of time is bound to increase ;) . But its ok, its all a part of life!

On a serious note, I have tried to put my thoughts using words that don’t make this blog look a gloomy, rotten, cry-baby story. The amount of effort being put into by us to get the parents to agree is lots and lots! We both are in a non-cooperation movement with our families, I know it hurts parents, it hurts us too, but thats the way to go I believe.

Signing off!

Novin!

This was the first Onam I din’t have the Sadya with my parents even though I was at home. I am writing this after a heated argument with my parents who are persuading me to come with them to a trip to HK or Singapore. I always wanted to write about this part of my life but couldn’t and todays incident followed by reading a blog that I came across when I was hunting for similar situations on the internet, after my argument couldn’t stop me from writing. Publishing without checking for gramatical mistakes and redundant words
